REUNION NEWS.
So what is it all about? Well, let's just suppose you were an ex-club member who had emigrated to the States or Australia (or even Huddersfield!) and you wanted to keep in touch with all the exciting things your old pals were doing. With a computer and a modem and a link to the World Wide Web you could simply type in the address of the wonderful new Argyle Reunion website! (For those of you reading this in print and wishing to try out this fab site type the following address into a browser near you now! :- It is hoped to keep these
pages updated from time to time with latest news about our activities
leading up to the Millenium Reunion sometime in April 2000. (Millenium
bugs permitting!) MILLENIUM COUNTDOWN . . .At the time of writing it is exactly 1 year, 0 months, 3 weeks, 2 days, 12 hours, 11 minutes & 49 seconds to the start of the New Millenium and counting!! ( We won't get into arguments over whether the Millenium actually starts at midnight on December 31st 1999 or 2000! here) We have given a lot of thought as to the form our next Reunion will take and have come up with the following suggestion:-Venue:- same as the last one i.e. The Chequers Inn, Ingleside Rd., Date:- same time of year, around the last weekend in April, avoiding Easter Activity:- skittles night. Teams of 4 or 6 (depending on how many turn up!) competing for a prize paid for by entrance fee - similar to the quiz last time). Food:- none organized.(no room for buffet if skittle alley is in use.) Music:- tapes of favourites as last time. We hope this will give everyone a chance to mingle and hopefully we will have more time to chat and catch up with all the news. (I felt that the quiz rather over-dominated the evening last time - perhaps it was a little too long!) Of, course, this is only one suggestion. We welcome your input, so please feel free to email us at [email protected] or even write or phone with all your suggestions. Please remember, though, that someone has to organize it all and unless you are prepared to volunteer please don't make your suggestions too elaborate! Any ideas?
MID-AIR TRAGEDY.On a sad note, it was a shock to hear of the tragic death earlier this year of one of our old friends, Ian "Stuart" Andrews. Stuart was killed when a glider he was piloting was involved in a mid-air collision during the Spring Bank Holiday weekend. He lived in Beechen Drive during the early 70's and was a fellow Air Cadet with Brillo, who, along with near neighbour, Bonzo, introduced him to the club at Argyle. He had moved to Stafford and although he was unable to attend the last Reunion we had been in touch and sent him copies of the Newsletters. He will be sadly missed.
Once again I shall be in Bristol in the New Year and if anyone cares to join me in the Warwick from 8pm on Thursday 7th January 1999 I shall be very pleased to see you for a celebratory drink & a sip of nostalgia or two! All that remains for me to do is to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy & Prosperous New Year.
Paul
